Aged for 20 months in premium French oak, this low intervention Pinot Noir is bright and rich, with complex aromatics and an elegant, earthy character. Raspberry and ripe strawberry give way to a broad, velvety dark fruit finish with subtle notes of vanilla and caramel as the wine opens up. The organically grown Swan Clone fruit was intensified by the diatomaceous soil and cool ocean fog on the steep hillsides of the Donnachadh vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA of Santa Barbara County, CA. Family owned and organically farmed, Donnachadh is located on Santa Rosa Road, an area increasingly known for producing excellent pinot. The hillside blocks, devoted primarily to Pinot Noir, are more exposed to the ocean winds. The soil there is derived from marine shale deposits and features more clay, rocks and cobbles than the riverside blocks. Overall, the hillside environment is quite challenging for the vines, limiting yields and producing grapes of exceptional character. Produced naturally with minimal intervention and very low SO2. Only 75 cases were made. Enjoy now or hold in your cellar.
