For our newest Pinot Noir release we've paired two organically farmed Dijon clones together. Slightly darker bodied than our Swan Clone Pinot, this low-intervention 25% whole-cluster vintage is silky and concentrated with a rich ruby color and an elegant nose of black raspberry and strawberry. Aged for 20 months in premium French oak (33% new barrels), it has an earthy, dark fruit finish with bright acidity, integrated tannins and hints of vanilla and caramel as it opens up. The organically farmed 667 and 115 clone fruit was intensified by the diatomaceous soil and cool ocean fog on the steep hillsides of the Donnachadh vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA of Santa Barbara County, CA. We kept a portion of the 667 Clone fruit as whole cluster in this case. The remainder of the 667 and all of the 115 Clone fruit was de-stemmed. Family owned and certified organic, Donnachadh is located on Santa Rosa Road, an area increasingly known for producing excellent pinot. The hillside blocks, devoted primarily to Pinot Noir, are more exposed to the ocean winds. The soil there is derived from marine shale deposits and features more clay, rocks and cobbles than the riverside blocks. Overall, the hillside environment is quite challenging for the vines, limiting yields and producing grapes of exceptional character. Produced naturally with minimal intervention and very low SO2. All bottles are hand numbered by the winemaker. Only 149 cases were made. Enjoy now or hold in your cellar.
